Win’s Is A-Changing

<< Back to archives | Friday, April 30, 2004

On Friday evening, a band will play from the roof of Win’s from 7:30 pm ‘til 10:30 pm. Contrary to a newspaper article today, there is no all-day party on Friday, according to one of the owners. But an evening live band - yes. A fun evening. We’ll take some photos.

Win’s Drive-In owners pose outside for one last photo. Friday will be their last day of operation after 40 years of steady serving all of us those great burgers, fries, shakes and fishwiches. From left are Tom and Mary Lue Walstrom, granddaughter Monica, grandson Gavin and daughter Kim Faye. Tom’s mother Winnie opened the burger place in 1964, moving an old A&W Root Beer stand to Fairhaven from the north side of Bellingham.

The Walstroms have sold the property, but there are no plans yet for what may be built here. After Friday, the drive-in will be closed. Word on the street is new operators might reopen the restaurant. We will let you know as soon as we know.
