Taylor Avenue Dock - It’s Open

Bicyclists and walkers go down the renovated Taylor Avenue Dock this noon as the construction fences were opened for the public. At the bottom is the beginning of the boardwalk - actually a concrete walkway - that goes a quarter mile north to Boulevard Park.

We can now walk the two miles from Fairhaven to downtown Bellingham completely on a great trail system. No more problems getting down to the park or over the RR tracks.

Bellingham Parks Department staff, Carl, opens the third and final fencing to fully open the dock and the south trail connection. Behind Carl is Mollie, visiting from Denver, who has just finished walking the boardwalk and dock from Boulevard Park and became the first person to walk through as the fence was taken down.

The walkway is perfect.
Wide, level, safe for kids and with vistas in every direction. Within half an hour of the final fencing being taken down, I counted over 50 people streaming onto the dock. We’ve waited 20 years for this and now it is part of our waterfront. Our thanks to Greenways and the Bellingham Parks for making it happen. We will enjoy it.
