Taylor Ave Dock Dedication<< Back to archives | Friday, September 24, 2004
Ribbon Cutting and Dedication of a fantastic dock and the vital last link in our shoreline trail system. The sunshine and crisp air were perfect for the ceremony. Looking down the Taylor Dock to the rebuilt railroad trestle that is now a walkway.
Paul Leuthold, Bellingham Parks Director, opens the ceremony at 4 pm today. The Parks department had to work for years to get state government permission to reconstruct the old freight dock and railroad trestle into a pedestrian and bicycle dock. We thank them for their efforts, as the dock is a super addition to our waterfront. To Paul’s right is Bellingham Mayor Mark Asmundson.
A fine crowd of a couple hundred people attended this dedication. Most or all have already enjoyed walking the dock since its opening a couple weeks ago. As can be seen here, the railings are super secure for adults and even the youngest of children. In the background is Mayor Mark Asmundson giving his formal dedication speech. |
