Sunday was a success - measured in the fun time that a lot of people had.  Just look at this photo of a portion of our Village Green during one moment.  And the rain held off till evening - well after the festival was over.

At 9:30 this morning at Boulevard Park, the rowers and kayakers got a briefing from John, the manager of the Dirty Dan Challenge race.  This year has 40 boats and maybe 50 participants.  The weather is perfect, warm and litle breeze.

Launching the boats on the small sandy beach at the north end of Boulevard Park.

The start of the Dirty Dan Challenge. They row or paddle to and around Chuckanut Island and then back.

In the afternoon, on the Village Green the Gallus Brothers provided warm music during the Chowder Cookoff.

The pergola surrounding the Green was lined with vendors.

Don White, the owner of Skylark’s Hidden Cafe, serves up a bowl of his chowder.  Don won both the People’s Choice and the Judge’s Choice - a first.  He said it is the normal chowder he serves in his restaurant.

the celebrity chowder judges - local celebrities.  From left, Rick McCudden - owner of Flats Tapas Bar, Mary Ellen Carter - author of several cookbooks, and Zandra Dennis - Miss Whatcom County.

Dirty Dan - known to friends as Jim Rich - announces the winners of the Chowder Cookoff.

And the final event of our two day festival is the piano race.  Here the crowd gathers at 10th and Harris.

Two members of each four member team line up - ready to run downhill on Harris Ave to their teammates and their pianos.

And - the runners have reached the pianos and now the team’s of four start pushing and pulling their pianos uphill.

And they come pounding up Harris Ave towards the finish.  These are thorough bred racing pianos. The finish photo is shown above this group of photos.

Steve Roguski, owner of Fairhaven Runners shoe store takes a photo of his winning team.

The new team this year - ‘Security’ who are students at Western.  Beautiful racing piano.

And so ends our photos of this year’s DDDays festival.  We hope you will join us next year on the last full weekend in April for the 7th DDDays.
