Open-Water and recreational rowers, a new rowing club in Bellingham Bay is forming!

An informational meeting about the forming of a new rowing club, New Whatcom Rowing, will be held at Wayland Marine, 817 Harris Ave., at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 12, 2006, at the tail end of the Rowing Expo. Anyone interested in the rapidly growing sport of open-water rowing is invited to attend.

Questions about open-water rowing, what it is, the type of rowing craft involved, how and where to do it, its wonderful health benefits, and where to learn sliding-seat rowing in Bellingham will be discussed. Weather permitting, boats will be in Padden Creek Lagoon for test rows and basic instruction.

Three spectacular slide presentations will be shown during the expo and informational meeting:
Dale McKinnon’s 2004 solo row down the Inside Passage from Ketchikan to Bellingham

The first North American Raid, the Shipyard Raid

The outstanding performance of the Echo shell in the The Blackburn Challenge, the East Coast’s famous 23-mile open-water rowing race (for rowers and paddlers).
