Local Companies Help Replace Flag

When the flag halyard broke in July and our flag came down, we had a problem in Fairhaven. Our flagpole is 110 feet tall. How to get the new halyard to the pulley at the top was the challenge.

The solution was in the generosity of several local companies. Kevin De Vries, President of Exxel Pacific, the contractor for Harris Square, organized the team effort. Northwest Recycling loaned their sky lift - able to go up 120 feet and the only one in the area. United Rentals provided the truck to get the lift to Fairhaven and lift operators Brad Harrington and Mike DeRosa. Our Fairhaven Market donated a new flag of 12 feet by 18 feet.

We thank these local firms. This was a huge donation of skilled workers and equipment. A new maintenance plan will prevent this being needed in the future - except maybe several years from now for maintenance of the pulley at the top. The Fairhaven Association took responsibility for the flag and the veteran’s memorial last year when it was moved to this new location.
