‘Ground Breaking’ Ceremony

<< Back to archives | Friday, July 25, 2003

Pulling up the first rusted iron debris, the heads of city and state agencies joined to pull it up by a rope. The ceremony, held this noon, marked the start of the reconstruction of the Taylor Avenue Dock. Work will begin immediately and will be a flurry of activity for the rest of the summer. The construction season is governed by salmon swimming habits.

Thanks To All Who Helped

Paul Leuthold, Bellingham Parks Director, was the Master of Ceremonies for the event. He thanked the many agencies and people who have worked years to make the project happen. $2.5 million in City and Greenways funds are behind the project, which has literally been 24 years in the planning. The project could - possibly - be finished by this November, 2003. Or, it could be February 2005 if there are surprises for the contractors and work has to be put on hold for up to 10 months at a time.
