The Chef Showdown was the closing act of the second annual Flavor of Fairhaven on Saturday. four chefs - 3 professional and 1 amateur - competed with the secret ingredient to win the judges approval. The secret ingredient proved to be a most Northwest food - a Geoduck. The audience was able to get up close to watch the chefs in action. The winner was Ross, the chef at Dirty Dan Harris Steakhouse. Todd Williams, the organizer of the Tour de Whatcom, checks in with bicycling participants early Saturday morning on the Village Green. Over 1,000 riders participated in the 5th annual Tour, which is run to benefit any charities named by participants. As the continued on, and bicyclists returned from riding 100 or 50 or 25 miles, they also took advantage of the Flavor of Fairhaven on the Village Green. The warm sunny Saturday morning featured a Griddlefest at Magdalena’s Crepe on 10th Street - with chefs from Sorella’s on the Bay flipping pancakes and from Avenue Bread cooking French toast. This was the start of the second day of the Flavor event. |
