Flagpole awaits delivery to Fairhaven<< Back to archives | Wednesday, February 20, 2008
Wrapped in protective plastic, the three sections of our new flagpole were delivered from the Wisconsin manufacturer to the storage yard in Bellingham on Monday. You can see how the steel poles will fit into each other for welding into one strong pole. When installed it will reach 100 feet above the small plaza in front of the Fairhaven Library. Under the plastic wraps the pole(s) is powder coated white. We will try and bring you daily reports here as we prepare the pole, install it and raise the flag in a planned ceremony on March 4. And we invite all to attend this event. We also want to thank the two major contributors for this pole - Ebenal Development and Ram Construction. Ebenal contributed $10,000 towards the purchase and Ram is donating perhaps as much by doing all the welding and raising of the pole at no charge. The flagpole is a project of the Old Fairhaven Association in cooperation with the Veterans who first raised the 100 foot wooden pole in 1987 which this steel pole replaces. Flag raising is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4, at noon. See the ‘Next Major Event’ at the top of the home page for more information. |
