Fine shopping in Historic Fairhaven<< Back to archives | Friday, September 15, 2006
In the Artwood Gallery on Harris Avenue are the most beautiful hand crafted wood furniture and accessories for our homes. If you have not browsed this shop then you are in for a treat. While many of the larger pieces are expensive - and worth it - there are also many small items, like boxes and lamps, that are priced for anyone’s budget. This Bubinga rocker nearest us in this photo was built by Ed Steckmest, one of the dozen woodworking members with pieces in the gallery. Artwood provides us with the finest in Northwest designs in wood. It is one of the reasons Fairhaven has its reputation for fun shopping. There are many shops here with unique offerings. What is amazing is that with as many shops as a normal mall, every shop and gallery is locally owned - not a single chain store in Historic Fairhaven. Art, clothing, jewelry, books, pottery, antiques, cooking ware, shoes, sport equipment, wood stoves, educational items, toys (four shops), home decor, and much more are all within a short three block radius. Less walking than at a mall - and much more beautiful. Come here and browse one of the finest shopping districts in the Northwest - Historic Fairhaven. |
