Ferry service to Friday Harbor starts

The first passengers from Friday Harbor get off the first legal ferry from the San Juan Islands in over 50 years at the Cruise Terminal in Fairhaven this morning. Only a few passengers were on the first trip - but it is a beginning. The ferry will carry over 100 passengers in comfort on the hour-and-forty-minute trip.

A small group of Fairhaven business owners met the first ferry with their bowler hats on and cheering as the passengers walked up the dock. Fairhaven is looking forward to making good friends with the residents and business owners in the islands. We think it is a natural that benefits both communities and that the ferry service should never again be stopped. Let’s make it a success.
