The reading room of our library now has computer terminals. What is the same from a hundred years ago is the friendly librarian. At the counter, Katie checks out books for a patron. The warmth and ambience of our branch library has been aided by the Friends of the Fairhaven Library who have donated some of the furniture in this photo, special shelves, comfy reading chairs and much more.

Today in the downstairs meeting room, the Friends celebrated the opening of the library in December, 1904. The Friends were started in October 1992, when the mayor planned to close the library. They have worked since to keep it open - against five more attempts by the city to close it. Let us hope they keep their spirit of solid support and willingness to stand up for our library.
