Dirty Dan Days a Lot of Fun

<< Back to archives | Saturday, April 30, 2005

Antiques dealers filled the 21 booths under the pergola - and the Village Green again showed us how much fun we can have with our town plaza. The town criers announced events. Live music from the stage all afternoon entertained folks as they shopped the huge selection of antiques. Ladies of the Evening Society posed with visitors for photos. Kids got their faces painted by Daisy Pickelhoffer, the clown.

We are busy helping with Sunday’s events but will post more photos this evening.

Dan’s Piano Race a Success

Hundreds cheered the two teams racing up Harris Avenue in the first piano race. Fairhaven Bikes and Fairhaven Runners fielded the two teams - and it was very close. Above, the Bikes team is only a few feet from winning with the Runners finishing a piano length behind.

Why a piano race? Because when Dirty Dan left Fairhaven in 1889, he pushed his piano down the street and into the bay as he figured he would never get paid for it. Our festival is a celebration of Dan and his founding of Fairhaven. Next year, will we will have the race again - and maybe with more pianos.

Free Shuttle Bus for Festival

Our Town Crier pauses at the special Fairhaven shuttle bus being given its first use during Dirty Dan Days. The bus connects between the festival on the Village Green, the Cruise Terminal with charter yachts open for tours, and the classic cars on display at 6th Street & Harris Ave. It runs continuously on the round trip about every 20 minutes today and tomorrow.

The festival continues today till the piano race at 5:30, and continues Sunday. See schedule below.
