Chuckanut Chowder Cook-Off a Great Success<< Back to archives | Sunday, May 1, 2005
Steve of Dirty Dan’s Restaurant serves up chowder this afternoon on the Village Green. Over 200 people sampled the chowders of 14 restaurants. Folks bought a $10 ticket and got a one-ounce taste of each of the chowders and then chose their favorite for a bowl to enjoy. The restaurant that got the most bowl orders won the new annual award.
Serving up chowder. Gina and Sandra from the Fairhaven Market Deli serve up a one-ounce sample for a bowler-hatted customer. Each restaurant had its own booth under the pergola.
Sam Tino of Mambo Italiano Restaurant accepts the First Place trophy plaque. His chowder got the most votes from the people tasting all the chowders. We hope to see it on the wall of his restaurant during this next year. There was also a “Judges Choice” award chosen by the three distinguished individuals on the right. They chose the Rhododendron Restaurant in Skagit Valley - about 15 miles south of Fairhaven on Chuckanut Drive. On the left is our MC, Dirty Dan himself, also known as Jim Rich.
Enjoying chowders and listening to live singing on the stage. The second day of Dirty Dan Days was a mellow success.
Sunday fun began with a rowing race from Boulevard Park to around Chuckanut Island and back - an eight-mile race. Here is the start with the Starr Rock buoy. More photos will be posted over the next couple days. Check back.
