Alaska Ferry Departing Fairhaven for Ketchikan<< Back to archives | Thursday, September 12, 2002
Year ‘round, the Alaska Ferry departs every Friday at 6 pm. The photo shows Harris Bay, the anchorage at our front door to the San Juan Islands. This is the ferry Columbia, which sails during the summer only. Those white buildings on the waterfront, owned by the Port of Bellingham, are leased by a dozen firms, from a sailmaker to several boat builders and fishing gear suppliers. The Historic Fairhaven district is seen behind the white waterfront marine industry buildings. Only a short pleasant walk from the Bellingham Cruise Terminal - the red brick building on the right edge of the photo - the district is the fun place for eating, shopping and ambience. |
