Sunday, August 17 || 7pm || freeLiterature Live at Village Books: Ken Wilcox with TRAILS OF THE CHUCKANUT MOUNTAINS MAPVillage Books presents a slideshow with Ken Wilcox about the many great trails in the Chuckanut Mountains. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of this map are donated to the Chuckanut Conservancy to help promote and restore public land in the Chuckanuts. Ken Wilcox has lived in the community since 1967 and is an avid explorer of the North Cascades, as well as a writer and consultant for environmental and recreation projects. His books include, Hiking Whatcom County, Hiking Snohomish County, and Hiking the San Juan Islands. This author presentation is just one of the many offered through Village Books' Literature Live program, which also includes a variety of monthly book group discussions (usually sans author). Saturday, September 13 || 8:30am || $20, pre-registration only, through 9/03Fairhaven Runners Waterfront 15K RaceTake part in one of the biggest running events in Bellingham, and one with a huge post-race party at the Fairhaven Village Green. This 9.3-mile loop race features Bellingham Bay's beautiful waterfront trail, with views of the San Juan Islands, Olympic Mountains, and Mount Baker. Finish the USATF-certified course at Fairhaven's Village Green, just a block from the start. Walkers welcome. Presented in partnership with Bellingham Parks & Recreation. Run 2.6 miles around the lake, mountain bike the trails above the lake 6 miles, then run 2.6 miles again. There will also be a FREE Youth Duathlon sponsored by the Whatcom YMCA after the race.
