Monthly Merchant meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month, except December, and are open to participation by all members. Discussion items include marketing, events, news, publicity, introductions of new business owners, and often a presentation on a relevant Fairhaven issue. Meetings are held at Village Books in the downstairs author reading area, and start at 9 am sharp, ending just before 10 am so merchants may get their businesses open. Enter through the Colophon Cafe door off the Village Green. Schedule of Merchant Meetings Second Wednesday of each month except no meeting in December. 2009 - Jan 14, Feb 11, March 11, April 8, May 13, June 10, July 8, Aug 12, Sep 9, Oct 14 and Nov 11 Board of Directors Meetings Board meetings are held the second Thursday of each month at 6:15 pm in the community room of the Whidbey Island Bank. Association members are welcome to attend board meetings. In March, the meeting is the annual General Membership meeting and is held at a special venue to be announced. Schedule of Board Meetings Second Thursday of each month except no meeting in August and December. 2009 - Jan 8, Feb 12, March 12, April 9, May 14, June 11, July 9, Sep 10, Oct 8 and Nov 12. Thursday, March 26 - Annual Membership Meeting - 6:00 to 8:00 pm at The Big Fat Fish Company. All members are encouraged to attend. The Board will give their annual report to the members and this is a fun meeting for all. Refreshments are served. MembershipThe Association sponsors events through the year to attract people to the historic district and to raise funds for district projects and marketing. The Association has beautification projects, such as the hanging flower pots on all the lamp posts and holiday lighting. It works on other projects with the city and property owners to improve the ambience and utility of the district, such as signage, parking, litter control and more.

What does it Cost? Annual membership dues are based on number of employees. Participating in the advertising program is optional ~ however, the more businesses that contribute towards adverting, the better job we can do with exposure for us all! Advertising funds are allocated both locally and regionally.
Our Membership Year is July - June If you are a first time Member joining in a month other than July, we will pro-rate for the remaining part of the year. Call Robin for pro-rates. Additional marketing opportunities to promote your business through sponsorship of specific OFA events are not included in these rates. How do I get Involved? It's easy! Election of the board directors by all Association members takes place each November. Directors are elected for two year terms with a portion being elected each year. Currently, there are 18 board members and 3 Ex Officio non-voting members. The next election will take place on the morning of Wednesday, Nov 11, 2009. An Association member interested in election to the Board should check this space in September or contact our President, Stephanie Johnson.

Former Board MembersThis list started when Erica Hume retired in 2007. It now seems fitting to expand it and list the many Association members who have served on the Board of Directors and helped our little historic district prosper, grow, change, morph and change again over the years. The Association was started in April, 1972.
