At the top of the photo is Bellingham Bay with boats in the shelter of Harris Bay's snug anchorage. Downtown Bellingham is about 2 miles off the top right corner. Chuckanut Drive starts at the very lower left corner. Interstate 5 is a mile to the right. ![]() The Alaska Ferry Columbia leaves Fairhaven Cruise Terminal on this August evening. The ferry sails for Alaska every Friday of the year at 6 pm. First stop is Ketchikan - 37 hours north. Those white buildings on the waterfront, owned by the Port of Bellingham, are leased by a dozen firms, from a sailmaker to several boat builders and fishing gear suppliers. The Historic Fairhaven district is seen behind the white waterfront marine industry buildings. Only a short pleasant walk from the Cruise Terminal - the red brick building on the right edge of the photo - the district is the fun place for eating, shopping and ambience. |
