Another Post Office update.

Our congratulations to the Sehome Village area on what may be their imminent acquisition of US Postal Service. The College Store in the Sehome Village Mall, one of only two applicants for the vacant Fairhaven service, is the only applicant left. The other was told by Postal officials that they did not have enough floor space.

The Sehome area deserves postal service, and we are very pleased for them. However, if the Postal officials select Sehome, then this leaves Fairhaven without postal service.

A few driving distance facts are in order here.
Main Bham PO to Orleans Street PO is 2 miles.
Main PO to Sehome Village is 2 miles.
Sehome Village to Fairhaven is over 2 miles.
Main PO to Fairhaven is 3 miles.

Fairhaven needs a Post Office - and the Sehome facility is not of any service to Fairhaven. John Borso, Bellingham Postmaster, set the boundaries way too far away from Fairhaven, putting them north to Bill McDonald Parkway and east to Interstate 5. Then the PO sent a letter to the College Store inviting them to apply.

The US Postal Service needs to be asked to provide Postal Service to Fairhaven - in addition to the Sehome Village service. I know the Fairhaven service goes back to the 1960s. If any reader knows when it started, please let me know. The local Postmaster phone number is 752-9822.
