Ken Imus honored for his vision of our village

A crowd of friends gathered this morning to pay a tribute to Ken Imus for his 30-some years’ effort to save the historic buildings in Fairhaven and for his restoration of some of the buildings. A plaque of Ken created by sculptor Bob McDermott was unveiled that is mounted on the brick wall bordering the courtyard of his 12th Street Village complex.

It was a surprise for Ken, as we all knew he would not attend if he knew he was being honored. In 1972, he started buying up the old buildings in Fairhaven. The first he restored was Sycamore Square at 12th and Harris.

Chuck Robinson was the MC. Speakers who briefly spoke were Pete Kremen, Ken Hertz, Brian Griffin, Phyllis Mckee, Dick Nord and Tim Imus.

Above, Ken says a few words - thanking his wife Barbara, who encouraged him - and thanking the crowd of friends. Actually, Ken was almost speechless for a while.

It was a well-deserved tribute. We encourage you to visit the new 12th Street Village - kitty corner from Stanellos restaurant - and check out the plaque and brass tribute for yourself.

We are open every day of the week. Stop by and see what we have on display.
