After 18 months in downtown Bellingham, Jelita Arts, Bellingham?s only store with Asian antiques, has relocated to Fairhaven. Julia Clauset, the owner of Jelita Arts and an artist herself, opened the store on April 11 at 1139 11th Street, next to Avenue Breads, after buying out the former tenants, BarleyTwist Antiques. Jelita Arts specializes in distinctive Asian and Western antiques plus glass art, ceramics, jewelry, and paintings by local and international artisans. Store hours are 11-5 Tuesday-Saturday and open Sundays during the holidays and when the weather is nice. Julia went to China in March with the Chamber of Commerce to see how current Chinese products compare with the antiques she carries in her store.
